Hampel Corp - October 2010 - Calf-Tel presented "Calf Care Best Practices" seminar in Beijing China to 100 Chinese dairy producers representing over 100,000 cows. Calf-Tel was part of a US consortium of dairy experts, organized and sponsored by Beijing Worldwide Sires, speaking on topics that included: calf care best practices, key trends in artificial insemination and genomics, animal nutrition, cow comfort, and large dairy herd management.
The biggest concerns facing Chinese calf raisers, for the most part, was not much different than what we see in the US and throughout the world: staff training, proper colostrum management, effective diagnosis of calf health problems, etc. Although, for the calves being raised in northern China, how to successfully raise calves in cold weather was the primary concern. Due to Calf-Tel's, extensive dairy and calf management experience, Calf-Tel was able to provide consultative solutions, which assisted with the specifics of these concerns.
The one-and-a-half day seminar took place on October 26 and October 27, and was followed up with visits to Chinese farms. The farm visits gave Calf-Tel the opportunity to see the calf management practices of local dairies and share our calf raising expertise with them. The farm tours took place in Inner Mongolia and ranged in size from 300 cows to 10,000 cows.
Calf-Tel has long been committed to sharing our calf management expertise with dairyman worldwide. In addition to this recent event in China, Calf-Tel has conducted and presented at key dairy events in the US and across the globe: Dairy Seminar Tour -Nurtingen, Osterfeld and Stuhr, Germany, April 2009, Michigan Extension Services - Michigan, March 2009, Central Plain Expo - Sioux Falls SD, March 2009, EuroTier - Hannover, Germany, November 2006, and World Dairy Expo -Madison, WI, September 2006.
